Christmas Stargazing

It's the Christmas season and I find myself reading the story of the birth of our Savior.  As I was reading about the wise men who followed the star to Bethlehem to find Jesus I realized a couple things...

First, if you study a bit you will realize that these wise men were "magi" or astrologers.  They were stargazers looking to the heavens for answers.  To gaze means "to fix the eyes in a steady intent look often with eagerness or studious attention".  Today, people are still "gazing", looking to the stars and many other things to find answers.  I love how God used a star to lead them to the true answer... Jesus.  I don't know what your "star" is.  The thing, or person that you are looking to to find some answers or some deeper meaning to life.  I pray that this Christmas you realize that you don't have to "stargaze" to find answers, but you can look to The One who made the stars.

Second, once they found Jesus, there was only one thing to do.  Only one thing they could do... they worshipped.  All they could do was worship.  They didn't worship the stars or anything else, but when they came into the presence of God in the flesh, they worshipped Him.  They worshipped with their body, "they bowed down".  They worshipped Him with their words of praise.  They worshipped him with their gifts, "they opened up their treasure chests and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh."  Above all else, Christmas is a season of worship!

This Christmas, let us refocus our gaze and worship upon Jesus.  Merry Christmas!
